Black Lives Matter, 36x54 inches, oil on

The raised fist is a symbol of solidarity and support. It’s used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance or resistance. A die-in, is a form of protest in which participants stimulate being dead. It’s an action that has been used in many protests to advocate for human rights issues. This protestor was one of hundreds of people stuck on the Brooklyn Bridge during a Black Lives Matter protest, unable to leave on either side of the bridge that was blocked off by police.  After hours on the bridge, protestors were finally allowed to exit. This image was taken on the bridge before everyone was released. It represents a call back to the civil rightsmovements of previous generations, with hopes to end systemic racism and police brutality.
